Are lunches getting to be the same old, same old....

When it comes to school lunches does it feel like you are making the same thing day after day?  We thought we would help a little...  I picked up a book this past weekend called Healthy Lunchboxes for kids by Amanda Grant.  It has some great idea's for kids lunches that I had never thought of and thought I would share a few idea's with you....

Here are a few Sandwich ideas...

Cheese & Apple - Grate some of your child's favourite cheese and mix it with grated apple, 1 chopped scallion, a squeeze of lemon and a little mayonnaise.  Choose your child's favourite bread ( this combination is particularly good on a wholewheat bread )...

Hummus, Tomatoes & Lettuce - Spread some hummus onto your chosen bread, and top with thin slices of tomatoes and lettuce leaves ( I tried this one and instead of lettuce used baby spinach )...

Avocado & Red Bell Pepper - Mash 1/2 ripe avocado with a little lemon juice and spread onto your chosen bread.  Finely chop 1/4 red bell pepper ( you can use orange or yellow as well ) and sprinkle it over the top of the avocado.....

Tuna with Cucumber - Mash some canned tuna, spread onto your chosen bread, and top with thinly sliced cucumber.  ( canned salmon could also be used )

A couple Fun Salad ideas.....

Pick 'n' Mix Salad -  Let your child help you decide what to put in the pick 'n' mix salad...  Into a bowl add your cut up veggies, fruit and cheese...  Send with some crackers, a roll or a rice cake if you wish...
Idea's for the salad can be....  Chunks of Cucumber, Celery, Carrots, Red Grapes, Cheddar Cheese ( squared ) and a handful of raisins...
( make it colourful so it's not only healthy but fun so your child will want to eat it, and if they help you pick out what goes in it that's even better! )

Coleslaw - Thinly slice some cabbage ( a small head or 1/2 large ) and whatever colour your child would rather eat, or mix it up and add both...  Peel and grate 2 carrots, thinly slice 1 red bell pepper, add 1 handful of raisins.  For the dressing 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt, and a tablespoon of honey ( I use agave instead of honey ).  Mix dressing and pour on the salad.  Put it in the fridge and you are ready to serve.

Green Salad - Cut up chunks of lettuce or use baby spinach, then give your child ( children ) the choice of what they wish to add to it...  cucumber, carrots, radishes, cherry tomatoes, or maybe they would rather fruits in their salad, thinly sliced, apples, pears, or berries, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries...
For the dressing you can use your child's favourite ( but send it with them in a different container and let them put it on at school...  It might even be fun to let them make the dressing..  Idea's 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, 1/2 - 1 tablespoon lemon juice or red or white wine vinegar or even balsamic vinegar and for more flavour you can add any of the following, 1 tablespoon or honey or agave, 1/2 small garlic clove ( crushed ) or 1/2 teaspoon of mustard.

Keep in mind all the idea's above can be made to suit your child...   They are also just a few idea's I happened to pick out of the book.  There are lots of websites as well that have useful information on them about just what we should be feeding our children.  Should you wish to get a list of the websites contact the school council email at cameroncouncil@hotmail.ca
We would also love to hear what healthy lunches and snacks are your children's favourite....  Please let us know by leaving a message in the comments section...

P.A. Day "fun"draiser.....

Thinking about what you're going to do with your children on the next P.A Day?  Monday November 22nd.....
Well Cameron Street School Council has come up with a fantastic idea for you!  We have arranged with Crock A Doodle  in the Village @ Blue Mountain a "fun"draiser...  Spend some time with your children at Crock A Doodle painting, making fun memories and possibly even taking care of some of the gifts on your Christmas list!  Crock A Doodle has a ton of great pottery pieces for you to choose from!  ( You can click here to view many of their products online... )

Students will soon be coming home with a coupon/flyer that will let the staff at Crock A Doodle know that you are part of the Cameron Street family.  All you need to do to take part in this "fun"draiser is to head up anytime between 10am - 7pm on Monday November 22nd, check out all the great pottery pieces, pick out what piece or pieces you wish to paint, paint them, pay for them and head back up in a couple days to pick it up after it's been fired.  It is so much fun, you are going to want to join your children and paint a piece yourself!
How is this a fundraiser you ask?  Well, Crock A Doodle has generously offered to give our school a % from every piece of pottery that our Cameron Street families paint on the 22nd of November!  How great is that!!  You get to spend some time having fun creating special works of art with your children, possibly even creating some beautiful Christmas presents if you so wish, and at the same time you are raising money for our school!  Fantastic!
Huge thanks from the Cameron Street School Council to Crock A Doodle for allowing us to set up this great "fun"draiser! Happy Creating!

If you have any questions please feel free to contact the School Council - cameroncouncil@hotmail.ca

Cameron Street School Council is extremely excited to share our ecofundraiser with you!  The students should have now all gone home with a catalogue of products for our new fundraising campaign with the Environment Network here in Collingwood.  We are THRILLED to be teaming up with them for this truly GREEN fundraising campaign.  This is the first time the Environment Network has ever done this, and we are so happy that we are first school to be doing this with them!

In the catalogue you will find a selection of fantastic products that the Environment Network sells in their shoppe.  Quite a few of these products have been marked down to a special just for you price!
Our campaign will last from November 1 - 19th so that you will have your products just in time for Christmas.  There are some great gift idea's inside the catalogue!

Should you wish to see, smell, touch any of the products, please head over to the Environment Network at 44 Saint Marie Street and check them out....

Did you happen to notice the Creemore Coffee...  It's our "Very Own Blend" complete with the Cameron Comets Logo on the bag!

Why take part in this ecofundraiser?  Here are a few of my own reasons...

- These are incredible GREEN Products....  The Environment Network has researched all their products extensively to ensure that they are truly green and manufactured in a way that supports the people and the communities they are created in.
- It's fundraising for our school!
- It's giving back to the community by supporting a fantastic local business!
- The Environment Network has also offered some great prizes..  For all students who participant, their names will be entered into a random draw to win..  You can see the list of prizes on the back of the catalogue.
- Did I mention it's GREEN and that they are incredible products?

Together our choices can change the world!

Cameron Street School Council wishes to extend a huge thank you to the Environment Network for teaming up with for the first ever ecofundraiser with them!

( If you need another catalogue please contact the school council - cameroncouncil@hotmail.ca )
